A Social Media Expert, Lakishna Marine is admonishing administrators of universities to utilize the opportunities presented by social media to facilitate the dissemination of information to their students.
Her advice follows an observation of the poor online presence of most of the country’s tertiary institutions, including the University of Ghana.
“When you do not include social media in your strategy, what I think is lost is the opportunity to communicate and the opportunity to further the brand of the university”, she said.
Mrs. Lakishna added that it is imperative for academic communities to utilize the various social platforms to enhance their engagements with students.
“What keeps us alive as businesses or institutions is the constant movement of messages; not having social media to cut down our communication to potential students, investors and to students studying [on] year abroad [programs]”, she asserted.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Monday, Madam Marine observed that the world is now a global village with social media becoming a key tool for communication, hence, the heightened need to exploit the full advantages such societal progressions bring.
“Also the world is small; it’s not just about being in the University Of Ghana. It is a world class institution; [hence] I think it is important to show up for your international audience. If you don’t have social media or an online presence, you almost kick yourself out of the game”, she added.
